WME | IMG ACQUIRES THE MISS UNIVERSE ORGANIZATION FROM DONALD J. TRUMP

BEVERLY HILLS, CA (September 14, 2015) – WME | IMG today announced the acquisition of The Miss Universe Organization, which includes MISS UNIVERSE®, MISS USA®, and MISS TEEN USA®, from Donald J. Trump. Mr. Trump had acquired NBCUniversal’s interest in The Miss Universe Organization as part of the settlement of his litigation against NBCUniversal.
The Miss Universe Organization is an international organization that advances and supports opportunities for women. MISS UNIVERSE® is distributed in more than 190 countries worldwide and seen by more than half a billion people annually.

The MISS UNIVERSE®, MISS USA®, and MISS TEEN USA® pageants provide a global platform for more than 10,000 women annually through dedicated partnerships with charities, sponsors, brands, franchisees and television networks around the world. Additionally, the organization raises millions of dollars for charities annually, including nearly $4 million in 2014 alone.
“Having worked closely with The Miss Universe Organization in the past, we understand the incredible potential of the events and the star-quality of the participants,” said Mark Shapiro, Chief Content Officer, WME | IMG. “The global reach of The Miss Universe Organization and the content opportunities presented by the pageants make this a strong, strategic addition to our portfolio.”

“I have truly enjoyed owning the MISS UNIVERSE®, MISS USA®, and MISS TEEN USA® pageants,” said Mr. Trump.“When I purchased the pageants many years ago, they were in serious trouble. It has been a great honor making them so successful and I have really enjoyed watching the pageants grow throughout the USA and worldwide. The pageants are now in the hands of a great company that will shepherd them to even greater levels of success.”

This acquisition expands WME | IMG’s portfolio of global events and media properties across entertainment and fashion, including more than 20 fashion weeks per year in cities including New York, Berlin, and Sydney; original lifestyle productions including this year’s “Macy’s Presents Fashion’s Front Row” taking place at Madison Square Garden; and global lifestyle festivals including Taste Festivals and Lollapalooza.

IMG has served as executive producers of both MISS UNIVERSE® and MISS USA® pageants in the past.

The Raine Group and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP served as WME | IMG’s financial and legal advisors, respectively.

Genesis Davila loses crown after violating pageant rules

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. - Genesis Davila was Miss Florida USA 2017 for about a week.
"DREAMING on a cloud," the 24-year-old Miss Miami Beach USA said on Instagram after she received the tiara.

The Puerto Rican model fell hard from the cloud Friday morning. Grant Gravitt, executive producer of the Miss Florida USA pageant, told Local 10 News that she won't be wearing the tiara any longer.
Davila, who competed with 64 other women last Saturday for the title, is accused of violating pageant regulations.

"We have a zero-tolerance policy on rules," Gravitt told Local 10's Shyann Malone. "Whether it's something major or minor, it's all about keeping an equal and level playing field. Unfortunately, our title holder sought an unfair competitive advantage, and that's just not acceptable in our system."

Gravitt said Davila used professional stylists to help with her hair and makeup in her private room, which is a violation of pageant rules.
"She made a poor life choice," Gravitt said.

Gravitt said pageant organizers received multiple complaints from contestants, and there were also eyewitnesses.

"We finally had substantial proof to link her and her vendors to her room on an evening which they were not allowed,"Gravitt said.

Although Gravitt didn't specifically say what proof he had, he said Davila's social media accounts sealed her fate.

"When one steps out of line, it's not fair to the other 64, and I couldn't look at the other 64 in the eye knowing that I had substantial proof to say, unfortunately, she sought an unfair advantage,"Gravitt said.

The announcement automatically makes the runner-up -- Miss Sunny Isles Beach USA Linette de Los Santos -- the new Miss Florida USA 2017.

De Los Santos is a Nova Southeastern University law school student born in the Dominican Republic.

"They always tell you if the winner cannot fulfill her duties then the first runner-up would assume the title,"De Los Santos said. "But you never really think that's going to happen, especially so close."

Makeup artist Luis Enrique Pina (right pic), who was unaware of the pageant's decision when he spoke to Local 10 News, described Davila as responsible and punctual.

"She is elegant and has a beautiful figure and she walks like a panther," Pina said about her performance on the catwalk. "She has a great future ahead of her."
At 5-foot and 10 inches tall, Davila is a model with Front Management and was also crowned Miss World Puerto Rico in 2014.
Davila had dreams of one day being crowned Miss Universe, but with the pageant's decision, those dreams were cut short.
"This is not a good day for either the pageant or this poor lady,"Gravitt said. "We wish her no harm. We wish her no ill-will. She made a bad choice, but she's a very good kid, and we wish her the best in her career."
Davila and her lawyers were scheduled to meet with Gravitt to surrender the crown late Friday afternoon. Davila was a no-show. Her lawyers did show up and promised to fight for Davila to keep the crown.
"She's still a queen," attorney Mayra Joll said. "She's still Miss Florida. She's still Miss Florida USA. Justice is going to be served. ... It's becoming very popular to decrown queens after what happened with Miss Universe."
Gravitt said it is a simple case of breaking the rules and the decision will not be reversed.
De Los Santos will represent Florida in the 2017 Miss USA pageant, which is the official qualifier for the Miss Universe pageant.
Pageant producers are now deciding whether to edit the program to include the changing of the crown. The pageant airs Saturday at 9 p.m. on Local 10.

THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COIN

Genesis Davila's Pageant Coach posted on his Instagram Account:

  • abgroup7: JUSTICE WILL BE DONE IN COURT! When a group of ignorant girls and jealous contestants all group up to bring one candidate down that had EVERYTHING and the complete package to win the Director needs to show us proof!! A roommate that started a false rumor and started spreading it all around after her TEAM didn't win!! Genesis Davila a girl who competed in two mayor pageant (Miss World & Miss Intercontinental ) had plenty of classes on how to do her own make up and hair... So we are not falling for that BS... We know exactly what happened and Justice will be prevailed- and aside from that lets not count all the racist and hatred message she received on various pageant forums WE have a professional investigator check IP addresses on that forum and this will go to court and EVERYTHING WILL COME OUT we have all the info to fight this because of false rumor that were spread by an IGNORANT roommate!!! ✌🏽️#missusa#missfloridausa#missfloridausa2017#missuniverse

What To Do When You No Longer Wear A Crown

$

You don't need a "Miss" in front of your name to make a difference.

There is a very strange nostalgia that comes from not competing in pageants anymore; whether it is for good, because of a hiatus, or after not earning a title at the local level. This is perpetuated by social media, where all you can see anywhere, is all of your friends getting ready to compete for their state titles. A tumultuous mix of sadness, jealousy, anger and hunger surges within you — and your heart aches for one last opportunity to wear a crown, rather than the invisible one that you have learned to always keep on your head.
Now I am coming from a quite possibly different situation than many of you, but we all share a common feeling of emptiness and being on the outside (if hopefully, only for the time being). Whether you competed for the last time at 24, decided to focus on school or a career, decided to marry the love of your life, or fell short of a crown no matter how hard you worked over these past 12 months... New opportunities will arise for you to shine! You don't need to be competing for a crown to sparkle! And you definitely don't need to have a "Miss" in front of your name to make a difference.

If you happen to be like me, and are trying to decide whether or not to step back on stage after a pageant hiatus... Just do it. There is no sense in moping around the house, rooting for all of your friends while secretly crying and wishing you were there instead. Do something to make you the best version of yourself you can be! Practice your talent, make a social media campaign for your platform, go for a run or ask your friends to do a mock interview with you; if you want to feel the weight of that crown on your head, you have to fight for it.

If you aged out, or for some reason can no longer compete, figure out the source of your unhappiness and unresolved feelings towards pageants. Did you not end with the result you had hoped for? Do you miss competing? Were pageants your only way to perform your talent as an adult? Well if you answered yes to any of these, you have already found your solution. Volunteer and give back to your organization, or host your own local so you can help other girls just like you achieve their goals! Find a new pageant system if you want to continue competing (Miss Universe doesn't age out until 27, and there will always be Ms./Mrs. pageants and quality specific pageants that can always satisfy your itch). If you sing, go to open mic nights or join a worship band; if you dance, try a new style like ballroom or volunteer with kids who can't take formal classes; if you're an instrumentalist, audition for a community orchestra. Your possibilities are endless!

Finally, even if it seems like no matter how hard you try, you will never get to wear a crown on your head... Your success is not determined by a few rhinestones or a sash. Persistence and patience will help you grow as an individual to make you stronger, more mature and ready to face any challenge that will come your way. Just remember that a different day and different judges will produce a different winner. Your time will come, and when it does, all the sweeter it will be.
